Derrick Washington
BOARD MEMBERS -
Derrick Washington- President and Board Member - Derrick Washington has been an active member of the LGBTQI community for the past 23 years, first as a member of the Delta Lambda Phi at California State University Northridge where he earned a Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science. Derrick has over 35 years of preforming with dance and cheer teams. Derrick has done numbers plays and dance shows. Derrick is currently the Team Captian and Leads the Choreographer team for West Hollywood Elite. During and after college Derrick, was a volunteer with both HRC (Human Rights Campaign) and APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles). He has also volunteered on the West Hollywood Cheerleader, where is was also the acting Choreographer and Assistant Choreographer. Derrick has worked at 7-Eleven Inc. For the past 23 years in Operations, Human Resources, and Acquisitions. His current position is Field Consultant. Derrick has been honor with several awards during his tenure at 7-Eleven and was named 2014 Field Consultant of the Year. Join board 6/2014.
Kurt Gramm- Treasurer and Board Member - Kurt Gramm, CPA, MBA, Plant Controller at Ricon , LLC in San Fernando, CA. Mr. Gramm is responsible for handling all the financial activities for the Ricon division location while ensuring that all corporate policies and initiatives are adhered to and executed throughout the organization. Before joining Ricon he was the Controller for Haskel, in Burbank CA. he held several positions including Controller, Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager in the manufacturing, aerospace, and internet sectors. During his participation in the LA Fellows professional development course, he volunteered his time at Valley Village, which is a nonprofit organization that dedicates their resources to protecting, fostering and developing the rights and interest of people with developmental disabilities. He continues to volunteer and support Valley Village when he is called upon. Born and raised in Maryland, Mr. Gramm received his BS in Accounting, from Mt. St. Mary’s College, in Emmitsburg, MD and his MBA from Woodbury University, in Burbank, CA. Join board 6/2014.
Lily Ning - Secretary and Board Member - Lily Ning has been involved with education and volunteering with educational organizations, since high school starting with the Educational Studies Program, a student-run organization at MIT. She continued in the field of education focusing on science by earning her BS in Physiology and Single Subject Life Science and Multiple Subjects Teaching Credentials at San Francisco State University and was a middle school science teacher in the SF Bay Area. During her undergraduate career, Lily continued volunteering and served as a Board Member for the San Francisco Chapter of Amigos de las Americas, an international youth leadership development and public health organization, where high school and college volunteers would spend their summer completing projects in partnership with various Latin American host countries. Before moving to LA, Lily was the Founding Executive Director and served on the Board for the Bay Area Teachers Center, a public-private partnership between Lick-Wilmerding High School, The Urban School, Aim High, and the Secondary Education Department of San Francisco State University. After moving to LA, Lily completed her MA in Education, Leadership, and Change at Antioch University Los Angeles, while working for UCLA's Teacher Education Program supporting beginning secondary teachers, primarily in science and math. Currently, Lily has been a Conference Committee Member for UCLA's Paulo Freire Institute (PFI) and Californian Association of Freirean Educators (CAFE), which are organized by UCLA graduate students in education, while pursuing her PhD at UCLA in Social Science and Comparative Education. Scott Knapp-Past Board Member - Scott Knapp is a local businessman and active member of the LGBT community. Scott is the founder and owner of ABC Kids Salon Supply, a distributor of products and services to the children's segment of the beauty industry since 2013 following a career that spanned retail, manufacture and international trade. Scott was a founding member and served on the executive committee of Pride-Youth and later the Board of Directors of LINKS-North Shore Youth Health Service in Chicago from 1993-2003. He has been a volunteer for Open Hand meals on wheels and Chicago House AIDS hospice. He was also an active member of Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus from 2001-2003 and has donated time and supported a variety of other 501(c) 3 organizations in an effort to improve the lives of those without a voice through education and awareness. Join board 9/2014. Served as Secretary from 9/2014 to 8/2015.
Thomas Garbrecht-Past Chairman of the Board- Thomas Garbrecht has been an active member of the LGBTQI community for the past 38 years, first as a member of the Gay Student Union at Bowling Green State University where he earned both Masters and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and then as a volunteer with Chicago’s LGBT community in working with media change to Los Angeles where he was an active volunteer with both GLAAD and APLA. Thomas has been a teacher, trainer, and currently is Assistant Director of Financial Aid at FIDM.
As Chairman, Thomas regularly reads West Hollywood Elite’s weekly agenda and minutes, attends their events, makes suggestions and organizes quarterly Board meetings. Join board 6/2014 to 6/2015.
Laura Masseria Past Chairwoman of the Board- Laura Masseria, a graduate of UCLA Music Business Certificate Program, has been a music business professional working in various areas of the music, film and television industry for the past 20 years. From 2007 until 2016 she held positions as Supervisor of Licensing Administration and Film and TV Licensing Manager at Warner/Chappell Music. Laura is now the owner of film and television music clearance and supervision company, Karma Girl Music Services. Laura is a Level II Reiki Practitioner and an animal and human rights activist. Join board 6/2015 -6/2018.
Debra Jackson - Past Board Member - Debra Jackson was born and raised in Boston moved to California in 1976 where she worked at the Los Angeles Times in various positions until September 1999. Debra has retired and has since dedicated her time to volunteering for various organizations some are GLAAD , project angel food, APLA, American cancer society, American heart Association, California Wine Masters, first star children's rights organization and many more organizations. Join board 6/2015 to 6/2018.
